We once heard someone say that “wine is made in the vineyard.”
Although we’ve heard this phrase repeated hundreds of times since, from that moment on, we began to believe it fervently—and our Greco di Tufo Riserva Vigna Laure is the ultimate proof.
Those lucky enough to taste it—given its very limited annual production—are fortunate indeed, but we who get to tell its story feel just as lucky. Speaking about Vigna Laure is simple and intuitive, much like describing Vigna Serrone and Vigna Ortale, our other Greco di Tufo Riserva Single Vineyards.
Vigna Laure is the pure result of vinifying Greco di Tufo grapes grown exclusively in our eponymous vineyard: that is what makes it so special.
Blessed was the day our path crossed with that of our Winemaker, Vincenzo Mercurio, and even more blessed was the moment he shared his vision for the Zonation Project.
To put it simply: for every vineyard, its own wine.
Vigna Laure is a Greco di Tufo Riserva DOCG. The fact that it is a select, prestigious production is evident from its full designation alone.
However, prestige is not the only reason this white wine is produced in such small quantities. The number 5,000 is not the result of complex financial analysis or marketing strategies discussed by the board.
If we produce only 5,000 bottles of Vigna Laure each year, it is because Mother Nature has dictated the right amount. It is the “right measure” for the 5 hectares of vines within Vigna Laure, allowing them to complete their biological cycle without the pressure of high yields. It is also the right measure for those who will sip it, certain that their glass holds a wine that respects both time and space.
“Katà Métron,” as the ancient Greeks used to say—meaning “the right measure”—is the necessary path to achieving happiness. We, who owe so much to the Greeks, couldn’t agree more.
Vigna Laure and Cantine di Marzo are located less than 500 meters apart in a straight line. Although it’s hard to be impartial, we must confess: we have a very special relationship with Vigna Laure.
The vineyard sits on the hill overlooking our village. We like to imagine that this vineyard and our winery ideally encircle the hamlet of Tufo in a warm, reassuring oenological embrace.
When harvest time arrives in mid-October, the clusters are gathered at an altitude of 350 meters and descend through the village streets to reach Cantine di Marzo which, at 240 meters, is the lowest point in Tufo.
While below the surface of Tufo our master cellar-workers labor with passion to ensure Vigna Laure stands out, above Tufo, it is the subsoil, the exposure, and the northern orientation of this vineyard that grant the wine its unique acidity, structure, intensity, and olfactory complexity.
Our cellar team deserves credit for preserving its sensory characteristics, but it is Vigna Laure itself that embellishes the wine with identifiable aromas of flint, a striking freshness, and a robust minerality.
Before becoming a Greco di Tufo DOCG Riserva, Vigna Laure rests for a full 12 months in the bottle, in strict accordance with production regulations.
Before that, the wine destined to become Riserva spends 9 months on its lees, fermenting at a constant temperature in stainless steel tanks. This “rest” is only a calm facade; under the watchful eye of our cellar masters, the wine develops its complexity and structure, aided by indigenous yeasts carefully selected for this purpose.
The journey begins with the pressing of the Greco clusters to obtain the free-run juice—the finest part of the extraction. Now that you know the story of what happens before Vigna Laure reaches you, you are ready for the “after”: discovering its taste, famous for its vibrant acidic backbone.

For the Greco di Tufo Riserva Vigna Laure, Cantine di Marzo chose an illustration of a singular ship. Populated by elegant passengers, it sails the skies rather than the seas, held aloft by a complex system of hot-air balloons.
“All together, elegantly dressed, launched toward the future aboard a sci-fi vessel. Good humor reigns among the passengers, who clearly know how to enjoy life. The idea that this represents our company makes us proud, because that is exactly who we are.”
Ferrante di Somma, CEO of Cantine di Marzo.
