The Land and the vines

The estate owns 32 hectares of Greco and Aglianico vineyards located around Tufo in the villages of Santa Lucia, San Paolo and Santa Paolina at an altitude of approximately 250 m above sea level.

The soil is mostly clay and limestone on gentle slopes oriented mostly south west.

The Greco variety was brought in the area by Scipione di Marzo in the seventeenth century.

The vines themselves come from the estate nursery where the vines, and since the 1950’s, the grafts are carefully selected  by the staff of the estate according to each parcel of vineyard.

This has preserved an extremely pure genotype of the vines which are the result of a long uninterrupted lineage that dates back to its origins.

Despite of the fact that the location is especially appropriate for growing Greco, the estates Aglianico vineyards give grapes of extraordinary quality which we find in the red Irpinia DOC.

Certain parcels of land have been selected for Aglianico giving results better than the best forecasts.

This emphasis on the production of red wine is the estate’s new objective and new vineyards will become productive in 2012.

For the Fiano, the di Marzo estate has close ties with two growers of the region of Lapio, people who share the same philosophy and love of the vine and respect for quality.

It is a partnership that has been going on for more than five years and that has allowed the estate to produce a Fiano of immense quality and success.
